Triepel Family, Virginia Beach, VA
2019 Wine-Down Event Recipient
Sedonia Triepel was just 16 when her life changed forever in December of 2018. Sedonia was driving across Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach when she was in a terrible car accident that left her with a traumatic brain injury. Since her accident, Sedonia has undergone more than a dozen surgeries on her brain and for 8 months has remained at a specialized hospital in Atlanta in a minimally cognitive state. Her rehabilitation was slow-going and her family feared the worst, until August 12th, 2019 when Sedonia “emerged.” With the support of her family and around-the-clock medical care, Sedonia has made leaps in her rehabilitation. She is now able to shake and nod her head to yes or no questions, regaining her ability to communicate at the most basic level. This is a monumental first step in her long-road of rehabilitation! Sedonia will soon be coming home.
The Foundation for Community Betterment raised funds through this event to help with therapy costs and an exercise bike to help with rehabilitation. |
