The Pelletier Family, New York, NY
2nd Annual Washington, DC Golf Weekend Recipient
After the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, our Betterment board, like many others, wanted to help the families that lost so much in the disaster. Through our network, we were able to locate two families we could reach out to and make a difference for in those first months before they received government assistance.
Mike Pelletier was killed in the World Trade Center at age 36. He left behind his wife Sophie and two small children. Betterment helped Mike’s family get back on their feet by assisting with bills before their funding came through from the government.
“It is so hard to express in words what your gift meant to me,” commented
Sophie. “It made a huge difference in such a time of crisis. It meant so much that people cared.”
Sophie continues to remain active in her community by being involved in programs for her children: Sydney, who starts first grade in the Fall, and Nicolas who turned four this year.
