3rd Annual Washington, D.C. Casino Night Event Recipient

One of our recipients at the 2008 D.C. Casino Night was the Lyons family: Hallie (7), Jackson (4), and Kendall(17 months) of Houston, Texas. Betterment friend Jennifer Kerber was lifelong friends with the children’s mother, Julie, who passed away at the age of 35 after a 14 month battle with inoperable Stage IV Metastatic Melanoma. Jennifer was at Julie’s bedside for much of the last few months of her life and commented on how Julie never wanted to accept financial support, saying instead to give it to those less fortunate. 

Now that circumstances changed, Betterment decided it was time to give back to those Julie left behind – her loving family. While the three young children can never replace their adoring mother, Betterment hopes to help the family stay strong by providing additional childcare for six months so that their Dad, Brendan, can bring their lives back together during trying months following Julie's untimely passing.
