The Barnes Family, Windsor, NY
2016 Binghamton State Farm Funds
Edward and Rhea Barnes were in their mid 70’s when they lost everything in a fire. They were very fortunate to make it out without harm. Nothing was salvageable from the fire and the amount of grief endured with the idea they would have to replace everything was very difficult. Unfortunately, they did not have insurance, so replacing their home and all of their belongings was a daunting task. They stayed with relatives until they were able to figure out a more permanent residence. They have lived in Windsor, NY and on that property for most of their lives. They are hardworking, honest people that value family and friends above all else. Their age and lack of means made it difficult for them to return to some sense of normalcy without the help of Betterment along with the help of others within their community as well as family and friends. Funds from Betterment paid for a bed, mattress and refrigerator for their permanent solution.
