Teen Adventure Camp, Alexandria Bay, NY
2017 Alexandria Bay Paddle Recipient
The Alexandria Bay Chapter supported the new Teen Adventure Program at Camp Wabaso by sponsoring a number of local kids to attend. Alexandria Bay is considered one of the poorest school districts in Jefferson County. There is a huge discrepancy in family incomes. With this said, many of these kids at the school never get the change to do any extra curricular activities. This year, the local board discussed the idea of supporting Camp Wabaso’s new Teen Adventure program so that 4 students from Alexandria Central could attend ($220 each). This new program is designed to help teens gain leadership skills, build self-esteem and self-confidence, enhance interpersonal communication skills, and build a stronger sense of personal and community awareness. Teens will further develop their understanding of the environment, community, and world through participation in 4-H research-based experiential learning. Another non-profit made a sizeable donation to the program and to sponsoring Alexandria Bay Students to go.
