Ryan Hunter, Alexandria Bay
2011 Alexandria Bay Immediate Need Recipient
Ryan and his family had recently moved to the area. Ryan's mother, Holly, is originally from the area and has family nearby. Ryan is one of 4 children, and Holly was 21 years old and divorced. Holly's grandfather was a local minister in our community and they have a supportive family.
In September, Ryan was burned in an accident at home. When the accident occurred, Ryan was taken to a hospital in Syracuse, 100 miles from their home, where he remained for 4 weeks. During that time, Holly's sister took in the remaining three children and cared for them while Holly stayed in the hospital with Ryan. Combined with her own children, her sister Heather cared for 7 children, all under the age of 7 years. This has been a great financial burden on her young family.
After Ryan's release from the hospital, he had both occupational and physical therapy 6 days per week. Once again Heather was caring for Ryan's 3 siblings each day as his mother transported him to various medical appointments. The Immediate Need fund helped support these families with gas cards, food cards, and diapers.
