Linda complained of a sinus headache that quickly escalated to left side weakness while she was at an out of state wedding. A quick trip to the Emergency Department showed there was a significant blood mass and swelling in the right side of her brain and a lesion in the left side. Linda underwent emergency brain surgery to remove the blood mass and help to alleviate the swelling. Fortunately, the surgery was successful, however she was diagnosed with stage IV thyroid cancer that had metastasized to her brain. She spent weeks undergoing intensive rehabilitation through numerous therapy sessions. Betterment helped with the cost of a medical transport to get Linda back home to Indiana where she could receive care from a medical team among family, friends and church members.
