Neshat Family, Afghanistan
2021 DC Golf recipient
Abdulhai Neshat and his family are from Afghanistan. In 2013-14, while he was a Colonel in the Afghan National Army, Abdulhai was an outstanding partner with the US Army and took exceptional care of the 42-man team stationed there. They were highly dependent on Colonel Neshat and his men, as he provided external security while they were located in the most dangerous, violent part of the country. The fact that the US group made it home with all 42 of their guys is largely due to Colonel Neshat's efforts. Colonel Neshat and his family made it to Qatar during the evacuations of Afghanistan. Through sheer luck, they were spotted by a member of that same group who Colonel Neshat helped protect. The Neshat family was able to make it to the US, where they remain at Camp Atterbury in Indiana. Funds raised at the golf tournament went towards covering basic needs like food, clothing, household items, and rent.
