Mike & Linda Finnerty, Springfield, VA

2007 Washington, DC Ongoing Support Recipient
Through collaboration with friends of the Finnerty’s and Old Ebbitt Grill, $18,626 was given to the Finnerty’s after Linda’s  brain aneurysm left both Mike and Linda without work or insurance.

On September 18th, 2006, Mike & Linda Finnerty were confronted with a situation that dramatically altered their lives.  That morning Linda became seriously ill and was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm.  During the long weeks after the diagnosis, Linda had 3 separate surgical procedures, batteries of tests, pain management procedures, and constant care by the neurological team at Inova Fairfax Hospital.  For Mike, that time was spent standing vigilant by her side, watching and worrying as the medical expenses piled up.

"Whether it was introducing someone to their future wife or supporting a soldier before he/she left for Iraq or Afghanistan, or being a deeply loyal friend - Mike and Linda have been there with unwavering support," commented a close friend of the couple.

Betterment teamed up with friends of Mike and Linda to support them during their very trying time.  In the fall of 2006, we held a Benefit night at "MIKE's Bar" (a/k/a the "Back Bar") of the Old Ebbitt Grill, where Mike was the well-know bartender, mixologist and friend to both new and returning guests, and it couldn't have gone better!

“Thank you for all of your help.  You guys have been great.  I can't tell you what your organization has meant to Linda and I, it is a relief knowing you are there for us.  Thank you again.” -Mike Finnerty
