Mary is the mother of 2 adult children whom she raised on her own after divorcing her husband. She never received child support, singlehandedly raised two incredible children while being the only parent in the household. Both of her kids did well in school, were involved in sports and in their community while growing up. Mary now has serious back problems and has been hospitalized a couple of times. She is on bed rest and unable to work. Betterment paid 6 months of mortgage for Mary as she recovers from surgery and gets back on her feet.
