Mallory Langill, Chicago, IL

2007 Chicago Eat, Drink, and be Scary Halloween Ball Recipient

Diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth, Mallory and her family labored through tests and treatments to help give Mallory a better quality of life.  In the fall of 2007, Mallory was approved for a double lung transplant surgery, but it meant that she and her mother would have to spend at least six months in St. Louis away from Chicago & Mallory’s dad and 4-year-old brother.  Coupled with the emotional strain of a surgery, the Langill family had to endure medical bills in excess of $65,000 (outside of insurance coverage).  Securing child care for their younger son and mustering additional resources to manage two households for this period of time put an even greater strain on the family.

Betterment helped relieve some of the Langill Family’s financial burden so that they could focus on more important matters...their daughter’s health.
“I am truly humbled.”
-Mallory’s father, Christian Langill, to more than 175 guests at the Eat, Drink, and Be Scary Halloween Ball

Sadly, Mallory lost her fight to Cystic Fibrosis after arriving in St. Louis prior to receiving her lung transplant.
