Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Programs, Ellicottville, NY
1st Annual Buffalo Moe Dixon Concert Recipient
The Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Programs (LASP) for Physically and Mentally Challenged Individuals was founded in 1988 in memory of Bill Lounsbury, a long time volunteer member of the Holiday Valley Ski Patrol, who lost his leg, and, ultimately, his life to cancer.
The organization offers lessons to persons afflicted with over a dozen maladies including spinal chord injuries, amputation, MS, Downs Syndrome and visual impairment. In 2004 LASP initiated a special program for returning, disabled veterans for the Iraq War as well as Afghanistan, the Gulf War, Vietnam and even Korea.
In order to continue to teach lessons, LASP was in need of several pieces of vital equipment that Betterment funds could underwrite, including two bi-skis and training tethers.
