Jerry Landreth, Hillsboro, Oregon
2023 Recipient
Jerry Landreth was diagnosed with ALS in November 2017. Jerry lost his ability to walk in 2019, and the disease has slowly taken away his ability to use his arms and legs. He can navigate his wheelchair via a “chin drive”, but otherwise requires full time care for all his functions. In 2022, Jerry needed modifications, including a new inflatable seat cushion to allow for better pressure relief. Jerry had a wheel-chair accessible van, but the changes to his seat height made it difficult for him to get into his van, keeping him and his wife, Sue, home more often. To have a more “normal” life, Jerry needed a new van. Betterment supported a local event and donated funds to Jerry and Sue for the purchase of a new van.
