Lacey Thomas, Alexandria Bay, NY
2018 Alexandria Bay Immediate Need Recipient
Lacey Thomas is a senior at Alexandria Central School. She was diagnosed in 2017 with Aplastic Anemia, a blood disease that lowers platelet counts, causes a variety of symptoms, and requires frequent blood transfusions. Lacey continues to struggle and is currently taking medication to help her build her platelet count. This has been working for her and allowed her to go up to two weeks without a blood transfusion. The medication she takes does have adverse affects on her energy levels and some side effects need to be balanced by other medications. Lacey travels weekly to Syracuse, NY for appointments with doctors for both transfusions and to monitor her health. Gas gift cards helped defray travel costs.
