Kate Pinkley had been fighting Pancreatic cancer for 2 years! She was doing pretty well the first 2 years. Then in February 2015, her cancer was labeled as Stage IV. She was on chemotherapy which was stopping the spread of the cancer. However, they stopped her treatment during the second course because it was causing too much damage in her body. She eventually had to stop working. Her husband, Bo, had been continuously dedicating himself to getting Kate back and forth from medical appointments and hospitals, taking care of their 2 boys, all while trying to maintain his own full time job. In addition, one of Kate and Bo’s sons has Joubert Syndrome which is a rare genetic disorder that affects the part of the brain that controls balance and coordination and can result in malformations. Donations from Betterment's Immedate Need Fund and proceeds from the event covered a portion of the Pinkley's mortgage, car payments, and miscellaneous bills.
Kate lost her fight in August 2016.
