Jessica Zimmerman, Cleveland, OH
2014 Cleveland Black and White Ball
When Jessie was six years-old, she was hit by a car. The accident left her with brain damage, unable to do many of the things children love to do, including running, skipping, and walking. Her family did not get her the help she needed, nor did they provide any support to assist her in learning to care for herself. Jessie came to L'Arche Cleveland with very few possessions, but full of hope, ready to move into her new pink bedroom. Through the recent care of L'Arche, Jessie is learning how to feed herself, how to use her arms, and even how to walk. Your support of Betterment's Black and White Ball helped Jessie purchase shoes, clothing, and personal care items so she could continue to work on getting more self-sufficient each day and begin to help others at L'Arche. L'Arche Cleveland works from the belief that people are differently abled, but that all have gifts worthy of sharing with the local community.
