Jennifer Nagel, NY, INF Recipient
2012 Immediate Need Fund Recipient and Cleveland Recipient
Jennifer was a 36 year old woman that recently graduated from acupuncture school in Berkeley, CA. She relocated to New York City last summer and worked at a community acupuncture clinic, as well as an acupuncture school. In February 2012, she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She underwent 6 months of chemo, and was scheduled to undergo surgery and radiation following treatment. Because of the many office visits and appointments combined with the side effects/fatigue associated with treatment, it was difficult for her to maintain working at a level where she could support herself. This includes her basic living needs, such as rent, food, insurance, medical payments, etc. Jennifer's attitude remained positive and she had an optimistic spirit that was helping her to fight the cancer. She was looking forward to getting this behind her so she could move forward and continue helping others achieve better health, wellness, and healing through Acupuncture.

Quote from Jennifer, July 2012
"Having recently started my long-awaited career as an Oriental Medicine practitioner and licensed acupuncturist, I was eager to assist others in their healing process. Finding out I had breast cancer and would have to take this year to heal myself, accept help from others and put the life I was living on hold came as a huge shock. Being able to lean on my family, friends, and now Betterment has made this journey so much lighter. My gratitude is overflowing. I am now nearing the completion of chemotherapy and will be preparing for surgery in the fall and radiation in the winter. I know in my heart that I will come out of this a stronger person and an even better healer. I can't wait to give back! I look forward to working with patients in a community clinic setting, where acupuncture is more affordable for everyone. For now, though, it's one step at a time. Thank you so much for helping me get through this and see the light at the end of the tunnel."
