Heights Youth Theatre (HYT) has served the Cleveland community for more than 50 years. HYT touches the lives of close to 10,000 youth and families each season by continuing to fulfill their mission to “entertain, educate, and inspire.” For countless numbers of children, Heights Youth Theatre has been their first exposure to live theater as they have worked together as actors and technicians. It is also a place where students in kindergarten through the 12th grade from the inner ring suburbs of Greater Cleveland have enjoyed a safe, nurturing environment and the experience of community.
The year 2004 brought many challenges to HYT. The closing of the community services program in Cleveland Heights and University Heights forced the board of HYT to assume the sole responsibility of running the theatre. Their role went from that of “boosters” to administrators and long-range planners. The Board of Directors of HYT is exceptionally proud of their work and the caliber of people who tirelessly serve the theatre. All those involved are drawn to the theater by the artistic quality of its productions and by the extraordinary sense of community connection the children experience.
More than 150 guests at Cleveland’s 2nd Annual event helped to raise funds to keep HYT’s doors open and has enabled them to move forward in celebration of their 51st season by helping to pay their rent.
