Diane Fowler, a former nurse at River Hospital suffered a stroke and her recovery had been slow. She was confined to a wheel chair, and her husband was unable to work and was caring for her. Betterment provided flooring material for their home, as the wheel chair could not navigate the carpet. Betterment also paid their mortgage for a couple of months.
