Denise Weber, Whitney Point, NY
2015 Binghamton Fund
Denise first started showing symptoms of ALS in April of 2014 but was diagnosed in February 2015. Unfortunately Denise’s condition has declined quickly and had a feeding tube put in the past couple of weeks. She is temporarily staying in a nursing home for rehab in Connecticut. Denise was a longtime resident of the Binghamton area before moving to Vernon, Connecticut with another longtime resident of the Binghamton area, Jim Gavin (Fiancé) They are relocating back to the Binghamton area in the upcoming weeks. Both Denise and Jim have many family members in the area and feel that this is the best place for them for support and peace of mind. Due to her decline and loss of use of her extremities, she is in need of a computer for communication purposes, a new tempur-pedic bed for comfort in her new home and a mobility van. Denise & Jim are facing a large amount of expenses. This doesn’t include the travel and additional expenses they face in the upcoming weeks/months. Denise is a mother of 4 adult children and 7 grand-children. She is very much loved by the Binghamton community and by her family. Jim has been right by Denise’s side and is trying to balance being a care taker and supporting them financially. When they relocate back to NY he will be using family sick leave. This will require him to use all of his sick time and ultimately be with-out pay for a period of time. A donation from the Binghamton fund helped purchase the computer and bed.
