Dawn Bernas, Kenmore, NY
1st Annual Buffalo Moe Dixon Concert Recipient
Dawn played hockey for the Niagara County Coyotes in both the Great Lakes and South Western (Ontario) Girls’ Hockey Leagues. The 17 year old senior at Kenmore West High School was a regular on the Honor Roll planned to enroll at Niagara University and play Division I Women’s Hockey in the future.
Her father, Dennis, died suddenly August 25, 2005 after dropping Dawn off at her first practice of the season. When he failed to pick her up after practice, his body was found in the driveway where he was washing the family car.
Because of the increased pressure on family finances, Dawn’s mother was unable to underwrite the expense of the 2005-2006 hockey season. Betterment donated the expenses for Dawn to play for the year.
