November 2019 Update
This is an update on Danny's condition and his need for our support. The impact of that devastating lightning strike over ten years ago has only increased as time goes by. Today, Danny is still recovering from a traumatic brain injury which causes him to suffer from depression, significant cognitive impairments, migraines, and severe sensitivity to light. The nerve damage in his right leg is severe and compromises the use of that leg. These impairments restrict him from being able to contribute to any type of employment. Danny's wife, Holli, is a tower of strength. She has found seasonal part time work at a private golf club near their home in South Carolina. Her small income helps them meet the detailed budget she keeps. That budget includes monthly support that Danny has been receiving from an outside source. Unfortunately, Danny has been notified that this monthly support will be terminated at the end of 2019! The Friends of Danny Shanz have reconnected with the Foundation for Community Betterment to help Danny and his family with this income shortfall. Please join us in supporting Danny now! It is urgent!
Danny's Story
At 42 years old Danny Shanz was young and successful, supporting his family by working as a PGA golf professional at the Congressional Golf Course in Bethesda, Maryland. On Thursday July 23, 2009 tragedy struck when a bolt of lightning touched down near Danny while he was teaching a golf lesson leaving him with extensive injuries. Due to the lighting strike, Danny suffers from short term memory loss, vertigo and permanent damage to his right leg, all of which currently prevent him from doing the job he loves. Proceeds from the Betterment golf tournament will help Danny, his wife Holly and two young children Austin and April by raising funds to pay their monthly mortgage.
