Damion has always been a silent giver. He never asks for recognition for the ways he helps out others and many don’t even know that it is in fact Damion who helps them. Damion is looking forward to gaining his mobility back so that he can continue the efforts he started with his quiet but meaningful volunteer chores he does. He also would like to continue to help with his son’s sporting activities and looks forward to volunteering as an assistant coach when he receives his prosthetic and is mobile again. Damion was told that workers comp would pay 75% of his income for two years and in response to that, he said he didn’t feel right taking money he did not earn. He reached out to his boss to ask if he could answer phones, file or work in the shop making sheet metal until he was well enough to do service calls. Although he won’t be able to some of the installation work that requires being on roofs, crawling in crawl spaces or installations in larger commercial spaces, he still wants to contribute where he can and has the desire to continually learn. Damion and his fiancée Ashley are community people who also do other things to give of their time and resources such as: support and donate new coats they purchase every year to children in the Williston community who are without winter coats. They also sponsor a child in need every Christmas season. Damion and Ashley are also very active with the Children’s Miracle network. They donate a lot of their time with this charity each year. The local Dairy Queen partners with the Children’s Miracle network to raise money for this worthy charity. All proceeds of the fundraising goes to the Fargo Children’s Hospital. Damion amazes us with his strength and perseverance every day. He has a heart as big as his smile and I know that he will continue to do amazing things, even if most of those things go unnoticed or celebrated. Sometimes the quiet heroes are the ones that make the biggest impact.
