Cuyahoga Community College Women in Transition Program, Cleveland, OH
2012 Betterment Cleveland Chili Cook-off Recipient
The WIT program will enable Cuyahoga Community College to help meet the needs of women in the Cleveland community who are seeking a path to self-sufficiency through educational attainment. This program curriculum is based on personal development, career exploration, computer classes and life skills workshops. The program helps women develop confidence, build self-esteem, identify marketable skills, and receive job training. It also helps them achieve economic independence. The donation helped pay for the time of the social worker who is the primary staff person working with the women in transition. Funding also provided supplies for the workshops (books, portfolios, etc.) One component of WIT is the value of voluntarism and all women are encouraged to become involved in their communities.
