Carlos Bailey, Washington, DC

2004 Washington, DC Cocktail Party Recipient
As the longtime host at the Capital Grille in Washington, D.C., Carlos Bailey was a familiar face and a terrific member of the Washington, DC community for many years.

Tragically, in the middle of 2003, Carlos was stricken with throat cancer and lacked insurance to cover all his growing medical expenses. David Fanning and Kelli Emerick, longtime Betterment supporters, approached the Foundation to help Carlos in his time of need.

The result was an evening reception at the Capital Grille, where supporters and friends gathered to give back to a person that they all appreciated and respected.

Thankfully, since the happy hour, Carlos had a successful surgery and was back to work at the Capital Grille. He continued with regular checkups, including CT scans and MRIs, to assess whether more treatment would be needed. With Betterment’s help, Carlos was looking forward to seeing his daughter graduate from college.

“The Betterment Foundation is an extremely worthy organization,” said Carlos’ friend, Joan Durocher.  “Carlos and his friends and family will forever be grateful for the help the Foundation provided to combat the huge medical bills that were accumulating.”

“Without the Foundation’s help, Carlos Bailey would probably not be here today.”  ~Joan Durocher, friend of Carlos
