Bob was a journalist for the local newspaper "The Canton Repository" and had been suffering PKD, which is a hereditary, degenerative disease that causes large cysts to form on the kidneys. Bob had been on dialysis for 3 years and as a result of this condition, he was forced to retire. Bob was looking to continue his career in writing and focus on his dream of becoming a fiction writer. Betterment helped Bob with the cost of computer supplies (printer and scanner) and car maintenance so he could drive to his dialysis and other medical appointments.
