Alexandria Bay Rotary Club, Alexandria Bay, NY
2017 Alexandria Bay Paddle Recipient
Recently, the property that the local community, Betterment and Rotary used for the chess set and shuffleboard was sold. There are plans to develop the property meaning the community will have to re-locate this space. The Village of Alexandria owns the old Chamber of Commerce building, a beautiful stone structure with a meeting room and restrooms. This building was abandoned a number of years ago. The Alexandria Bay Rotary Club has decided that their next major project to help the community is to refurbish the old Chamber building with new restrooms and an information center for our tourist town. This community center will be located at the beginning of new River Walk along the water. We would relocate the chess set and shuffleboard to this area. There are also plans to build a gazebo for locals, non-profits and entertainers to use. The total cost of this project ($78,000) will be the responsibility of the Alexandria Bay Rotary Club. After completion of the project, the Village will be responsible for the maintenance of the building and grounds. The Foundation for Community Betterment helped with a portion of the project cost.
