Alexandria Bay Fire Department

2012, 2015, 2019 Alexandria Bay Paddle Recipient

The Alexandria Bay Fire Department was in need of gear to wear into burning buildings.  The Foundation for Community Betterment purchased one full set of "turnout gear" which was used by interior firefighters.  The gear must be replaced every 10 years, and the total cost of one outfit is $1773.  Because the department leads us up the river in their fireboat at every paddle at no cost to our organization and goes above and beyond the call of duty in the Alexandria Bay Community on a daily bases, we feel they are a worthy recipient.  Betterment again helped the fire department in 2015 with a $1000 donation for the purchase of air packs.  In 2019, Betterment donated funds for equipment and training for one diver for the Alexandria Bay Fire Department as they build their dive team.
