In September 2023, Alyssa discovered that after a year in remission, her breast cancer had returned, manifesting in her spinal fluid as leptomeningeal disease—a rare condition affecting only 1% of breast cancer patients. Alyssa is undergoing a groundbreaking clinical trial involving immunotherapy treatment in Florida. The Cleveland Chapter was able to provide rent support, a car payment, and a student loan payment for  to ease the financial burden for Alyssa and her husband.
