Washington, D.C. Chapter

2008 Host Committee

The HC

Stay tuned for more information about our next event!

As one of our founding chapters, the Washington, D.C chapter has had a long history of helping Betterment support individuals and organizations.  In fact, D.C. played host to Betterment’s first event, a golf tournament in 2001.

Since then, D.C.’s annual Betterment Golf Tournament has become a tradition for our members, who come from across the country to join in the weekend festivities and to raise money for a worthy cause.  This year’s event will be held on Friday, September 26th at Potomac Ridge Golf Course in Waldorf, MD.  In celebration of the tournament, Betterment will also host “A Night of a Million Stars” cocktail party Saturday, September 27th at Madame Tussaud’s Wax museum in DC. Please click here if you would like to join us in our 9th Annual Golf Classic!!!

In addition to our annual Golf Tournament, the D.C. chapter also organizes a Casino Night held every winter for the past three years.  This fun-filled night features many loud cheers for the high-rollers, and a silent auction for those who are a little less lucky at the tables.  With wonderful food, drink, music, and fun--all for a great cause--at the end of the night everyone goes home a winner!

The D.C. chapter also plays host to various other small events and happy hours throughout the year, as Betterment works to unite professionals of all ages and levels in our philanthropic mission.  Some of our more recent get-togethers have taken place in popular bars located throughout the city, including:  The Big Hunt, Old Ebbitt’s Grill, Tom Toms, and most recently, The Elephant & Castle Pub and Restaurant.

For the past 9 years, Betterment’s D.C chapter has helped many individuals and organizations, both locally and on a national scale.  As we move into our 10th year with Betterment, we hope to see you at one of our many events!  To learn more about this chapter’s recipients, please click on their individual links listed below.

Foundation for Community Betterment Announces Washington D.C. 2008 Golf Classic Weekend Recipients

The Foundation for Community Betterment is proud to announce the selection of two recipients for the 9th annual Golf Classic weekend in Washington D.C. to be held the weekend of September 26th, 2008. This year, the Kiser Family and the Fund for Alexandria’s Child, both from Virginia, will be our recipients. The proceeds from the golf tournament and the wax museum party will go to help support these two worthy recipients.

In June of 2008, Bill Kiser lost his battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma after a two year battle with the disease. He is survived by his wife Alyson and their two children, Josh (7) and Brady (5). After months of struggling financially, Alyson and her two boys moved in with her parents in Fairfax Station, Virginia. The Foundation for Community Betterment will help the Kiser Family during this hard time by helping with the cost of tuition and school uniforms for Josh and Brady.

The Fund for Alexandria’s Child is the vehicle through which the Alexandria community supports children in foster care or who are at risk of serious abuse and neglect.  The state government provides for their room and board, medical care and basic necessities, but there is no provision whatsoever of support for the things that other children take for granted in our society. Betterment will help these needy children by donating money to help provide clothing for both for school and everyday activity.

The 9th annual Betterment golf tournament will be held on September 26, 2008 at the Potomac Ridge Golf Course in Waldorf Maryland. Join us at dawn for a record breaking 75 holes of marathon golf, or come to the shotgun start of the final 18 holes at 1:00 pm.

On September 27, 2008, Betterment will be hosting the “Night of a Million Stars” party at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in Washington D.C. Proceeds from both events will go to the Kiser Family and the Fund for Alexandria’s Child. To sign up for either or both events, please click here. If you are unable to attend but would like to make a donation, please click here. Thank you for your support!
