Chicago "Eat, Drink and Be Scary" hair-raising fun!
Ghost, goblins and skeletons, oh my! Our own Chicago chapter for the Foundation of Community Betterment had a great group turn-out this year for our 2nd Annual "Eat, Drink and Be Scary" event! Held at the Museum of Surgical Sciences it was not only a success because of the fun we all had at this "hair-raising" event, but also from our fundraising. We were able to raise $5,000 for Tricia Fragen and the Normal Moments organization. We are so excited to continue to have this as one of our staple events for our chapter and can't wait to see what will become of next year! History Behind Normal Moments’ Founding:
Tricia Fragen was a single mom to daughter, Melissa, for 16 years. Melissa was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a bone cancer, the day before beginning her sophomore year of high school. They battled through chemotherapy, septic shock, many surgeries, radiation, and countless side effects from it all. Tricia had a dear friend, David, who stepped in and took care of the dogs, plants and house during extended hospital stays. Occasionally, when they had to be at the hospital on a cold winter morning, a neighbor would surprise them by shoveling the driveway. When Melissa stopped eating everything but sushi, friends and family created the “Sushi Fund” at her favorite restaurant so that Tricia could afford to feed her what she wanted. And when no one else really understood what Tricia was going through, another friend who had been through a similar experience was there as a sounding board. Tricia and Melissa talked many times about how every family in this situation should have a “David” and other support. Before Melissa died, Tricia promised her that she would form Normal Moments to give families that needed support.
