Since its inception in September 2007, the Canton chapter of the Foundation for Community
Betterment has raised more than $80,000 and distributed proceeds to twelve local families
and seven community organizations in need of assistance. Our goal is simple – to better
communities. Whether it is by helping one family in need of direct financial support or funding
a community outreach program, we want our simple actions to create a ripple effect of giving.
The Canton chapter of Community Betterment was busier than ever in 2011, creating more
opportunities to make a difference in the lives of Stark County residents. Our fourth annual
major fundraiser, Rocktoberfest 2011, proved to be another success, raising more than 20,000
for one local family and three nonprofit organizations in our community. We also granted
funds to two immediate-need recipients and established a memorial fund for Ronald Stokes, JR
a previous Rocktoberfest recipient.
Our volunteer base keeps growing, in part because of the variety of volunteer events in which
our Canton chapter participates. Take a look at some of the different ways our volunteers
helped out in 2011 alone:
Organizing a successful book drive for J.R. Coleman Family Services, donating and
collecting items for the Pregnancy Support Center.
Baking birthday cakes for children and mothers throughout the year and adopting a
family at Christmas through Domestic Violence Project, Inc.
Pouring beer for attendees of the music performances at the HOFEF Ribs Burnoff.
Volunteering at Warrior Dash and with Habitat for Humanity.
Running a fun “Lobster Trap” hole-in-one putting green with Bender’s Tavern in
downtown Canton on First Fridays.
