Jackson Re-Build Project, Jackson, MS
2005 Immediate Need Recipient
Betterment partnered with a group of young volunteers from Chicago who committed their personal time and money to assist in rebuilding efforts in Jackson, MS. Group leader Louis Linsmeyer and his team of nine rented a Uhaul truck over the holidays, loaded it with building materials and headed south to help a local church and residents rebuild. Betterment donated $2,600 from the Immediate Need Fund to pay for their truck and fuel costs then helped them to raise over $7,000 to purchase the needed tools and building supplies.
Pastor Tracy of Riverside Baptist Church, in Pascagoula, Mississippi wrote to Louis,
"You have helped us take a great leap toward the restoration of our church buildings and one of our dear parishioner's homes. I know it came by great sacrifice on your crew's part. It is so encouraging to our folks and myself to see the compassion and concern from so many from so far."
