Caitlin Washko, Southgate, MI
2014 Chicago "wine-down" Happy Hour event Recipient
Joe & Betty Washko had a baby girl 26 years ago, Caitlin, who was diagnosed with severe scoliosis with pulmonary compromise, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and is severely mentally and physically impaired. Her physical impairments included reflux issues, visual problems, and being immobile and nonverbal. Joe & Betty refused to put their little girl in an institution and devoted their lives to caring for Caitlin and making her as comfortable as possible. As Caitlin got older, it became extremely difficult to get her around their home. Their family needed funds for a home remodel to accommodate Caitlin’s wheelchair and make caring for her a little bit easier in the comfort of their own home. Betterment helped to raise funds to help with remodeling. Unfortunately, Caitlin passed away in December of 2016 but her family remains grateful for the help that Betterment was able to provide for her care to keep her in their home.
